Pictures From My Second Week of School

We took a trip to Costco this week and it was a pretty sunset, I couldn't take any decent pictures, but it was still lovely.  We're next to the Han River here.

Friday morning, we woke up to such a beautiful day ....

Some of my students studying and searching for sources to support their first stories in English 1

How can you not smile when greeted with such cheery smiles?  :-)

English Village had a fairly large group of students from around the Province this week.  I think they were all spending money at the little store in the Village.

Looking back up the road to my apartment building.  It's the one next to the light post.  :-)  Isn't the sky so beautiful.  A Beautiful Sky with no Ominous Typhoons!

At the end of the Apartments road, cross road where we meet the van to go into town for some PIZZA with the kids who stayed for the weekend.

Yup, that way to English Village

The little city near us ...

Another pretty sunset ...

Not the best of pictures, but we just finished eating, and we're headed back to campus

Our school building ... and more studious students ... how did these get out of order, when I put them in, in order .... strange ...

Before we left Yangpyeong, we saw this lovely rainbow.  :-)

It's faint, but it was almost a complete arc.

Another view of the sunset on the clouds Friday Night

OH what a Beautiful Sabbath Morning

Good morning all, and Happy Sabbath!

I have been here for three Sabbaths now, just over 2 weeks and I can tell you I am loving it here.  Last Sabbath I and one of the other new teachers, was invited out to go to a beautiful park that is about 45 minutes from here.  It's a lot like an arboretum or botanical garden type of place.  We couldn't stay to long, and there was a downpour in the middle of our visit, but it was such a delightful time with my new friends.

I will try and post some pictures here and tell you more about that lovely adventure, as well as share some about my new home.  For now, it is time to get ready for church.  :-)

Love you all!

One Full Week Tomorrow!

I haven't posted anything since I arrived ... a little jet lag, a little lesson planning ... SCHOOL STARTED!   So I am going to try and catch up on what has happened, and show you a few pictures.  :-)

The campus here is quite lovely, and I really hadn't felt like I was in another country really, except for the fact we're surrounded by mountains and have had extreme humidity.  Yesterday wasn't so bad, and today was ok.  The size of the hills/mountains and the humidity together is not like anything back home.  However, I was reminded of working at summer camp in Indiana, and the very hot, very humid days we had at least once a week.

I walked into my classroom, and discovered the air conditioning in my classroom wasn't working properly.  OIY!  I felt like I was melting right into the floor.  I'm surprised I made it of there walking, and not slithering.

We've been together now three days, and already I feel attached to my new students.  They are a great group of teenagers.  Pretty typical teens the world round, but there are a few differences as well.  Just an example, even though they don't always speak up in class discussions (they are better now then they were their first term I understand), I will often get questions from many, to help clarify an assignment or question outside of class.  LOL!  Just as I was writing this, one of my students sent me an email asking me if he could possibly re-do one of his assignments since he had been confused about what he was answering so that he could could "increase the points."  This is a student who's overall grade so far is an A, even with this one assignment with a B-, but he wants to improve it.  I'm hoping that the motivation isn't just to improve the grade, but also to show that he wants to also improve his understanding and show that he does.  He is a neat kid, who I think will be a real joy to have in the classroom.  It is a small enough group, that I know most of the students, there are a few that I don't exactly know who they are, mostly sophomores who aren't in my classes, but I have been meeting them as they come into the staff room for different things.  Of course, there are a couple students that are so reserved that I haven't got a real feeling for where they are at yet.  I want to find something that will help get them engaged in the class and also feeling free to talk with me about various things, including, but not limited to their schoolwork.

I've been into the little town we are next too, and also the city that is close by to do some shopping.  Of course, I have forgotten to pick up certain items that I need.  LAUNDRY SOAP!  Though it is a different culture, of course, I feel like I can be quite comfortable here. More so, when I learn a little more Korean.  :-)  The Korean teacher at our school today asked if I really was interested in learning Korean.  I told her, YES, very much so.  I would be so delighted to take a Korean language class from here.  She seemed to be a little surprised that so many of us were interested, but also pleased.  WOOHOO!  I'm not sure when we will start, but I"m pretty excited about it.

Oh lands!  I rambled an awful lot, it isn't really all that interesting and my grammar could use some help.  I've been rather tired all day today, so perhaps I should just go to bed now ....

I leave you with a few views of the campus from last Sabbath...

Goodnight  :-)  Or good morning ....

I Have Arrived!

Not enough time, headed out to eat lunch, but I finally arrived.  I took a shower ... feel much better.  Slept fabulously on the flight from Paris to Incheon.  They upgraded me to a business class seat.  WOW!  fantastic!  if only I could fly that way every time.  Boy do you feel pampered and what lovely sleep too.  feet up, cozy ...

Ok, I'll write more later, but in case you were wondering, I got here safe.  :-)

I'm in PARIS!?!

I flew over Europe for the second time, and landed in Paris for the first time.  My flight to Tokyo from MSP was delayed.  The plane that was coming in from there, had to make a medical emergency landing in Alaska, thus it was delayed three hours, and I would miss my connecting flight to Seoul.  YIKES!  I went to the Delta help desk/phones, and thankfully I arrived in time to make arrangements before the flight left Alaska, or else I would be arriving in Seoul 24 hours late.  Instead, with this new route the very nice lady found me, I get to see Paris ... from the airport and air, and basically fly around the world and get in only 9 hours later then the original time.

I am so tired.  It is 1 am back at home, and I haven't been able to sleep more than about 2 hours total since my 1 and 1/2 hours sleep the night before.  I wouldn't you know, it is bright and sunny outside here.  Ohh, why did I not get much sleep the night before?  Well on the way to the hotel, the vehicle decided to break down.  I will not dwell on the fact that it is my lovely 4Runner, that had just had a clean bill of health the week before.  I will not dwell on the cost it sounds like it will take to fix it.  God has sent me on this journey, He will help figure it all out.  I hope I sleep on the flight from here to Seoul though.  Especially since it will be morning again there.

Ok, maybe I can catch a few zzz's here.  EEK, it is way to bright in here.  Actually, I like how open and light it is, but ..............soooooo sleeeeeeeeepy.

My visa arrived on Friday ... WOOHOO!  Tomorrow is the day I fly out.  Still have some re-packing to do.

EEK!  I am excited, and nervous and ... AHHH! my suitcase weighs to much I have to leave some things behind.

For those of you who have my cell number, it will no longer be in service after midnight tonight.

Still have my Email and Facebook.  :-)

Ok, back to the re-packing.
